Ferdinand in the garden
This is Ferdinand. Ferdinand likes his garden. You can say he is a good gardener. His plants are great. They are lush and green and full of fruit ready to pick.
Ferdinand goes to his garden every day and looks after his crop. He is watering the plants with his watering can and makes sure they are well looked after. His garden is the best in the neighbourhood. Ferdinand is very proud of that. It’s because he is spending a lot of time in his garden.
The Ferdinand gets up in the morning he has a coffee. He gets up that early, the sun isn’t even up yet. He has a slice of bread too. Ferdinand reckons that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Some days he even has two slices of bread with jam. He says: “It will be a big day in the garden for me.”
The sun is getting up. Ferdinand is ready to go into the garden. His wife, Martha, is still in bed. He gives her a kiss and says: “Martha, I go into the garden, I have a big day. It’s going to be very hot.”
At the door he puts his crocks on. The crocks are his favourite shoes. He reckons the crocks are the best because they are light and they like to get dirty. But they have to life outside and aren’t allowed inside the house. Martha wouldn’t like that.
Ferdinand has a short walk to the garden. He knows the way very well. You must know that Ferdinand doesn’t see well. He is wearing glasses that are as thick as ashtrays. But that doesn’t bother Ferdinand. ” When things are close I can see them very clearly.” People say that Ferdinand often talks to bushes and posts. He really doesn’t see well.
Today Ferdinand is putting new salad seedlings in the ground. They are still small. He will look after them. He likes salad, it is his favourite dish.
So there he is, in his garden, bent over in his purple crocks and ashtrays for glasses, planting salad. This doesn’t get unnoticed. Next door lives Bruni, which is short for Brunhilde, the angry goat. She doesn’t like Ferdinand. She also notices that he forgot to close the gate. Bruni notices everything.
Now the scene is set for some action. Ferdinand with his bum high in the air and Bruni, the raging goat, out on a mission. She wants a piece of Ferdinand. She is running towards him with her horns in attack position.
BOOOM!
Ferdinand gets hit in the bum. He doesn’t know what is going on. He is looking through his glasses and sees a little goat. “Hey my little friend. Would you like some fresh carrots?” Ferdinand pulls up some beautiful orange carrots and gives them to Bruni. Bruni didn’t expect that. She loves carrots.
From that day forward Ferdinand and Bruni are best friends. They are both in the garden helping each other every day. He even plants more carrots, especially for Bruni. She is helping him with the Weeds.
The End
