Week 39, Melbourne Goat Challenge
What to do with the kids in Melbourne? Simple, send them to Luna Park. They will have fun there. Or will they? That big face must be scary for those little goats.
It was a fun one to draw. the theme this week is ‘Melbourne’ and there are so many places to draw. I just couldn’t work out why the three little kids would visit Melbourne. I first thought about the kids under the clocks at Flinders Street Station, but why would they go there? Maybe the Vic Market, that would have worked for the veggies they sell there. However, I thought it would look like any old market. There are so many places and I couldn’t work on out. And then it hit me! Bang!. After regaining consciousness I tried to work out what hit me. I never worked it out.
That doesn’t matter. I started to draw the little goat at Luna Park. I wanted to draw it so it looks like from the perspective of the goats, from low down. I think I managed. I don’t mind perspectives, they are challenging. This is what this challenge is all about, pushing the boundaries and see what you can come up with.
So I got the kids at the entrance. The one with the upright ears is the fearless one. He doesn’t care too much. He was in there already and now he wants to get his friends in as well. But they don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s that big face that is holding them back. It must be very scary for little kids. They don’t want to be eaten. They rather wait outside and see how their friend does it. Usually goats are quite inquisitive and don’t shy away from things like that. If it doesn’t move or make a strange sound, they will sooner or later advance and go through.
I had one of our little kids in Albert Park earlier this year. He is a rescue from Animal Aid and the specialists gave him a 10%chance of surviving. His sister died and the mother didn’t want to know him. So I took him under my wing and nursed him up to good health. He’s doing really well these days. When I took him to Albert Park he was still tiny. All he was doing was eating, playing and sleeping. There was not much in between. I had to give him the bottle three times a day and because I wanted to visit a fellow cartoonist I had no choice but to take him with me. He was sleeping for the best part. He didn’t even mind the trip in the car. He was fast asleep. But when I took him out for a wee and a feed I inadvertently created some attention. Imagine trying to walk a puppy. That is very hard. Now picture the same thing with a little kid, a baby goat. Good luck. people were confused and amazed. Some have never seen a goat in the city. I got to admit, it was a strange sight. The kiddo enjoyed all the attention he got.
Here you go. A goat adventure of the different kind.
